The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final Grand Prix in the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship season and is due to take place on the weekend of the 12th to the 14th of November 2010 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. If you’re planning to go to the race, here is some information about the circuit and some of the area’s other attractions.

Abu Dhabi Overview

Abu Dhabi is the largest of the United Arab Emirates, which are situated in the south-east of the Arabian Peninsula. You can find out more about Abu Dhabi in our previous post about the emirate.

Getting to Abu Dhabi

The main airport for Abu Dhabi is Abu Dhabi International Airport. It’s situated about 32km from the centre of Abu Dhabi and is only about 15 minutes’ drive from the Yas Marina Circuit. A number of airlines operate flights to Abu Dhabi from the U.K. You can find out more in our previous post about Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The Yas Marina Circuit

The Yas Marina Circuit is situated on Yas Island, which is about 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Abu Dhabi. The circuit, which was designed by Hermann Tilke, was completed in 2009 and the first Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was held there in November of that year.

Yas Marina Circuit is 5.554km long and has 21 corners. Formula 1 drivers aim to complete 55 laps of it. The grandstands are all covered and the circuit is also of note because it passes through the luxurious Yas Hotel.

Attractions in Abu Dhabi

The city of Abu Dhabi is a fascinating place to visit, with both historic and contemporary attractions. Yas Island, on which you’ll find the Yas Marina Circuit, is also home to attractions such as the Ferrari World Theme Park, Yas Gateway and the Yas Links Golf Course.

Other attractions within Abu Dhabi include the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the Emirates Heritage Village, the Corniche, the Abu Dhabi Mall and the Al Meena Souk.

Abu Dhabi is 4 hours ahead of the U.K. and the currency used there is the Dirham.
