Sunny Beach is a relatively new resort on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. The population of Sunny Beach is tiny in the winter months but there is an influx of thousands of tourists in spring, growing steadily in the run up to the busy summer.

There is a main strip lined by towering hotels that back onto the wide, Blue Flag winning sandy beach. There are literally hundreds of hotels to choose from. The resort stretches from Sveti Vlas to Nessebar and is the most popular beach destination in Bulgaria. It is easy to see why. This is a very picturesque area and aside from its hotels, the resort boasts numerous bars and restaurants as well as loads of shopping opportunities. All in all, the area has everything in place for a perfect beach holiday.

The Climate

Bulgaria does not offer year-round sunbathing and the hot season is relatively short. For the best temperatures, visit between mid-May and the end of September. June, July and August are the hottest months.

What Attracts People to Sunny Beach?

Sunny Beach has 8 kilometres of beach and is full of bars, restaurants and night clubs so the fun really is non-stop. Prices in Bulgaria are very good, with eating out and drinking in bars offering particularly good value. For example, a decent meal with drinks can be had for less than £20 for two people! For many, a holiday means no more than time on the beach and a few drinks and a meal in the evening. For those looking for other activities and places to visit, here are some suggestions.

Activities and Attractions in Sunny Beach

Water Sports

Sunny Beach is well known as a centre for water sports with a range of activities on offer such as boat hire, skiing, jet ski hire, paragliding and banana boats. Like everything else here, the prices are very reasonable so get involved and have fun.

The Sunny Beach Slingshot

Is a ride that is certainly not for the feint-hearted! Passengers are strapped tightly into a metal cage and fired into the sky at an unbelievable rate of acceleration by two massive elastic bands. It sounds crazy…and it is!

Catamaran Cruise

You will be collected at Sunny Beach and driven to nearby Nesebar. From there, it is out to the beautiful, blue sea on a very pretty, white sailing catamaran. The anchor is dropped at a place where the snorkelling is fantastic, in clear seas that are packed with fish. Then, get back onboard for the included buffet lunch and a couple of drinks on your way back to port, accompanied by dolphins swimming alongside, if you are lucky. Does that sound like a good day? No…it sounds like a great day!

Go Karting

Fancy yourself as a Lewis Hamilton or (for older readers) Jackie Stewart? Sunny Beach has a magnificent, almost half kilometre outdoor go karting track. Night racing is no problem as the track is fully lit. You can get involved for only about £4! If that isn’t a bargain, I don’t know what is.

Sunny Beach Boulevard

This is the heart of Sunny Beach. By day, it is a bustling market, full of bargain hunters and vendors haggling over prices. By night, the market gives way to restaurants and night life.

Luna Park

Luna Park offers a fairground, bumper cars and bungee jumping. It also contains a number of bars and restaurants for a great evening out. There is no entry fee, you just pay for the activities as you use them and the cost is very reasonable. Kids will love it!

Festa Dolphinarium – is situated in a futuristic glass and metal building right by the seaside in Varna. It offers daily dolphin shows with these very intelligent animals performing high speed leaps from the water and mid-air acrobatics.

These streets lead down to the harbour area, which is full of nice little bars and restaurants specialising in seafood and steaks. You can get to the town on foot, by bus or by taxi.
