Gran Canaria is a nature lover’s paradise

The island of Gran Canaria is small but perfect in terms of natural beauty.  Here there are examples of plants and animals which are only found on Gran Canaria, as well as many rare species which are conserved very carefully by the authorities.  There are in total 33 protected areas on Gran Canaria, covering almost half of the entire island, and this makes it a very interesting place to visit for travelers interested in the ecology of the planet.

One of the names for the special conservation areas are nature parks and visitors are encouraged. There are also nature reserves where people can visit but not use the area for recreation. Gran Canaria also has its fair share of natural monuments, which are unique formations which everyone can visit and relax around.  Next are protected landscapes and areas of scientific interest where special studies are conducted to protect species.  Gran Canaria has examples of all these areas and is guarded most protectively by the people who live there for this reason.

Sport for all

If you are seeking somewhere to shape up and get fit, Gran Canaria has a range of facilities and certainly has the weather.  There are opportunities all over the island to take part in outdoor sports, no matter how long you plan to stay, whatever your favourite leisure time or indeed professional activity.  In the popular resorts you can hire jet skis, pedal boats, surfboards, bicycles, horses, boats… there is no need to spend a single minute in your accommodation other than to sleep!

If you wish to travel further inland, there are venues for rock climbing, hiking, cycle hire and pony trekking, all of which you can book through tourist information centers and online.

Enjoy a new sense of wellbeing

Gran Canaria is such a beautiful place and the weather is so temperate all year round that it is easy to find relaxation when you travel there.  The scenery has everything for the discerning traveller, from volcanic lunar type landscapes, to fertile green lands with exotic flowers and plants everywhere you look, to long beaches with golden sand stretching for miles.  It is really hard to be stressed when you are surrounded by such pleasant vistas!

There are many spa hotels on the island which offer a range of beauty treatments and therapies, plus facilities to get fit and improve your health. The ones to consider include the Gloria Palace hotels and the Inagua Spa at the Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa, as well as the Corallium Thalasso Spa at the luxury Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort in Meloneras.  Also consider the superb spa at the five star Sheraton Salobre Golf resort and the tranquil spa located at the five star Palm Beach at Maspalomas.

Imagine spending time in a specially designed hydrotherapy pool, and then a moisturising shower and a sauna, followed by a steam bath, and a massage; then sitting out in the evening sun on your private patio with a chilled glass of champagne, feeling completely at one with the world.
