According to the BBC, holidaymakers were amongst 1,500 people evacuated from Spain’s Mojacar region today due to wild fires in the area. There have been a number of major fires in the country during the past few days, several of which have allegedly been caused by an electrical storm which hit the Aragon region.
The BBC report states that France, Greece, Sardinia and Corsica have also had wildfires during the past week and that a “European Union monitoring agency has warned that the risk of fire along the Mediterranean coastline remains high with soaring temperatures predicted for the coming days”.
Anyone who is planning to travel to Southern Europe should check to see what the situation is in the area that they are visiting before embarking upon their journey.
