In this, the sixth part of our guide to the Epcot theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, we take a look at three more of the pavilions in the World Showcase section of the park: the Germany, Italy and the U.S.A. pavilions.
The Germany Pavilion
Epcot’s Germany pavilion is designed to look like a 16th century fairy-tale-style village. There are no rides within this pavilion, but there are plenty of other things to see and do.
You can watch one of the 25-minute long daily performances by “Oktoberfest Musicanten”, the pavilion’s traditional Bavarian band, or stock up on souvenirs in one of the German-themed shops, such as Der Teddybar, which sells a wide range of toys, and the Sussigkeiten, which sells German sweets and cookies. You can also enjoy wine-tasting at the Weinkeller or relax by the fountain in the cobbled plaza.
There are two restaurants in the Germany pavilion: the Biergarten Restaurant and Sommerfest.
The Biergarten Restaurant is a buffet restaurant, serving a range of traditional German dishes, such as pork schnitzel, bratwurst, sauerkraut and Bavarian cheesecake. The restaurant has an Oktoberfest theme, and diners are seated at long tables whilst entertainers perform traditional Bavarian music and dances.
Sommerfest is a counter-service restaurant, and its menu includes pretzels, frankfurters, bratwurst and a range of German desserts.
The Italy Pavilion
The Italy pavilion is designed to look like Venice, and includes an 83 ft tall replica of the bell tower in St. Mark’s Square and a “Neptune fountain”. There are no rides within this pavilion, but you can stock up on souvenirs to take back to your Orlando hire car or hotel in one of the shops here. Il Bel Cristallo sells jewellery, leather goods and perfumes, and there are other shops selling everything from Italian sweets to Venetian masks.
There is one restaurant in the Italy pavilion, Tutto Italia Ristorante. It’s a table service restaurant and its menu includes pasta dishes, salads and a range of traditional Italian desserts.
The U.S.A Pavilion
The U.S.A pavilion is officially known as the American Adventure pavilion, and its main attraction is The American Adventure, a 30 minute show depicting important scenes from American history. The show, which is located within the pavilion’s colonial-style building, features audio-animatronic figures and film sequences. You can also visit the Hall of Flags exhibit.
The pavilion is also home to the America Gardens Theater, which plays host to various shows and events. You may also be able to see a performance by The Spirit of America Fife and Drums Corps, or the Voices of Liberty singing group within the pavilion.
There isn’t a table service restaurant within the American Adventure pavilion, but there is a counter-service restaurant, The Liberty Inn Restaurant. Its menu includes burgers, hot dogs and salads, together with a range of desserts and drinks. Alternatively, you can buy turkey legs and hot dogs from the Fife & Drum stand or Funnel Cakes from the pavilion’s kiosk.
For souvenirs, head to Heritage Manor Gifts, which sells American-themed products.
In the next post in this series, we will be looking at three more of the pavilions in the World Showcase area of Epcot: the Japan pavilion, the Morocco pavilion and the France pavilion.
