Saturday marked the 50th anniversary of the first commercial jet transatlantic crossing. The Comet 4 took off from London Airport on October 4, 1958, bound for New York’s Idlewild airport with 31 passengers aboard.
According to Tom Chesshyre from The Times Online, when inflation is taken into account, passengers flying first class paid the equivalent of £4,951 and passengers flying deluxe class paid the equivalent of £5,252 in today’s money.
